Man arrested in Novi Pazar after threats during funeral gathering
Police detained the 46-year-old suspect and say the investigation is ongoing.
A 46-year-old man was arrested in Novi Pazar after allegedly storming into a funeral crowd and threatening someone during a service at the city cemetery.
The incident happened on the day of the burial, when the suspect reportedly entered the gathering and made public threats toward an escorted prisoner who was there for the final farewell of his mother.
Police said the prisoner was under special security and was brought from serving his sentence with strict safety measures, in the presence of prison commanders.
Despite those precautions, the man identified as E.B. allegedly managed to get onto the cemetery grounds and threaten the escorted prisoner in front of those attending.
Officers responded quickly and took E.B. to the police station for further handling. Police launched an investigation to establish all circumstances of the incident.
Investigators are reviewing video footage from the cemetery and taking statements from people who were present. Police also checked whether there were any gaps in security during the prisoner’s escort.
After the incident, E.B. was detained during the evening and kept in custody pending further proceedings, with the case also set to be examined by the competent prosecutor’s office once evidence and witness statements are collected.
The arrest is a suspected case of criminal offence of endangering safety, and the investigation is ongoing.
