A man was arrested after the window at a Haribo shop in Pontefract was smashed in an attempted theft. Police said the shop window was broken and the suspect tried to reach through the display to take items, causing minor injuries. Officers arrested the man at the scene on Front Street, Pontefract, just after 2.30am on Saturday, October 11. A police community support officer held the suspect before the arrest. The incident was one of three arrests carried out by the Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood policing team from Friday night into Saturday morning. Just before midnight on Spawd Bone Lane, Knottingley, police arrested a woman wanted for three thefts from shops. Then, at around 3.30am, officers stopped a suspect at a Shell petrol station on Bondgate. Police found he had a bank card that was not registered in his name, and it had just been declined when he tried to buy something at the night counter. He was held by a police community support officer and later found to be wanted on recall to prison. Investigations found the card had been taken after a woman’s purse was stolen in a burglary when a house had been left insecure. Police said she got the bank card back before she even knew it had been taken. The Haribo arrest was made following the window smash and attempted shop theft, with the suspect in police custody at the time of the scene arrest.
