A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after an incident in Carlisle was filmed and shared on social media. Cumbria Police said officers were reviewing the video shot on Botchergate to establish the full circumstances of what happened. Officers responded at the time filming took place and arrested the man at the scene. The man has been released on police bail while investigations continue. Police said they understood the footage could cause concern. Officers said they have been carrying out high-visibility patrols in Carlisle city centre and the night-time economy area, alongside partner agencies and local businesses, to safeguard vulnerable people. The force added it remains committed to tackling violence against women and girls and takes reports of behaviour that makes people feel unsafe seriously.
