Police in Shumen have arrested a man who allegedly attacked his mother with the handle of an axe during a domestic dispute in the early hours. The incident happened around 7:00 yesterday in a private property in the village of Kulevcha. A 45-year-old man allegedly struck his 65-year-old mother in the back with the handle of an axe. The woman was examined by a medical team. The man was detained for up to 24 hours at the police station in Novi Pazar. A pre-trial investigation has been opened for the offence, police said through the Shumen Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior press office via TV Shumen. He remains in police custody pending the next steps in the investigation.
