Australian police charge 46-year-old over false Bondi Beach shooting injury claim
He was arrested on Oct 27 and charged with publishing false and misleading material to obtain advantage.
Australian police have charged a 46-year-old man over a false Bondi Beach mass-shooting injury claim tied to compensation after the Dec 2025 attack.
Officers say the man allegedly made a statement that he was injured in the Bondi shooting and then submitted fraudulent compensation claims afterward.
Police said detectives identified the suspect and arrested him on Oct 27. He was charged with publishing false and misleading material to obtain advantage. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Nov 18.
The Bondi Beach attack targeted a Jewish festival in December 2025, leaving 15 people dead and dozens wounded. Police said one of the gunmen, Sajid Akram, was shot and killed by officers during the Dec 14 attack.
Sajid Akram’s son, Naveed Akram, remains in custody facing a total of 78 charges, including terrorism and 15 murders. A committal hearing has been set for Feb 24, 2027, with him to appear by audio-video link from prison.
