Man charged with involuntary manslaughter in Monaco after nightclub fall
Antoine de Massy is also charged with failing to assist a person in danger.
A man has been charged in Monaco with involuntary manslaughter after the death of Prince Albert of Monaco’s cousin, Antoine de Massy, 29.
Prosecutors say de Massy died after leaving the Sass’ Cafe nightclub early on Sunday, when he fell about 13 feet into a garden below Boulevard du Larvotto.
Monaco’s prosecutor general, Stéphane Thibault, said the accused was remanded in custody after refusing to answer questions. The man, 42, is identified as Ukrainian and a resident of Monaco. He was filmed leaving the club alongside de Massy at about 3am.
Along with involuntary manslaughter, the man was also charged with failing to assist a person in danger.
De Massy was found on Sunday after his family contacted authorities when he did not turn up for a family lunch. He was discovered in a park below Boulevard du Larvotto. Video showed him in an inebriated state as he left Sass’ Cafe in the early hours.
A post-mortem examination into the cause of death and an investigation are ongoing.
De Massy, a tech entrepreneur and a keen tennis player, was the son of Cécile Gelabale and Christian de Massy. The statement confirming his death was released by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène. A memorial has been set up near where his body was found, with flowers, candles, the principality’s flag, tennis balls and a framed photograph.
