A 29-year-old man was detained in Malveira, Mafra, after police linked him to a suspected vehicle theft and an illegal driving incident. The arrest was made on Monday after the GNR received a communication from PSP Sacavém, triggered by a report that the suspect may have been using the victim’s bank card at a service station in Malveira. GNR officers from the Malveira Territorial Post mobilised two patrols. During the checks, they located the stolen vehicle in circulation, but the driver tried to flee when he saw the authorities. After a pursuit of around seven kilometres, GNR managed to intercept and immobilise the vehicle and detain the suspect. The stolen car was recovered, valued at about 25,000 euros, along with various documents belonging to the victim. Officers also seized a knife with a 15-centimetre blade and a pair of gloves. Police later confirmed the man had no legal licence to drive. According to the GNR, the suspect has criminal records related to violent crimes, including robberies and attempted homicide. The man was presented to the Judicial Court of the Comarca of Lisbon North in Loures, where he was indicted for vehicle theft, possession of a prohibited weapon, and driving without a licence.
