A man has been extradited from Poland and charged with murder over the 2023 death of Darcy Schafer-Turner, whose body was found inside a metal cabinet floating in a creek on the NSW Mid North Coast. Homicide Squad detectives extradited the accused on Friday. The 22-year-old victim disappeared after a drug-related dispute, and his body was discovered weeks later inside the cabinet. Zachary Richard Fraser was sentenced in 2025 after pleading guilty to manslaughter of Schafer-Turner. The court heard Fraser taped Schafer-Turner’s mouth shut while another man held him in a chokehold. Schafer-Turner lost consciousness and suffocated, and police said emergency services were not called. Fraser believed Schafer-Turner owed the other man $50,000. Another man was paid $20,000 to clean up the scene and dispose of the body. Police said CCTV footage from Bunnings showed Charles Dennis Turnbull buying cable ties and a large metal cabinet. He travelled to Port Macquarie, bought a boat, and allegedly dumped Schafer-Turner’s body in Warrell Creek in Macksville. A third man allegedly involved in the attack fled overseas. After detectives carried out an ongoing investigation, they travelled to Poland on September 18 to arrest a 26-year-old man. He arrived in Sydney about 6pm on Friday and was charged with murder, and is due to face court on Saturday. The case remains before the courts, with the investigation continuing in relation to the alleged attack and the men previously sentenced over the death.
