A man who flew to the UK from the United States after stalking his victim for 10 years has been jailed. Robert Beckman, 31, was arrested at Gatwick Airport on 25 August by Sussex Police after flying from Boston with the intention of meeting the victim. He admitted causing his victim serious distress by sending messages online and by post, as well as commenting on social media posts. Beckman, who lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, pleaded guilty at a hearing last month. At Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, he was jailed for a year and nine months. The court also imposed a 10-year restraining order. Beckman was ordered not to enter the UK. Sussex Police said Beckman had previously been given a police caution by the Metropolitan Police for harassing the same man in October 2021. The force added that despite returning to the USA and being told not to contact the victim, he continued to communicate with him. Beckman is now serving his sentence after being convicted at Lewes Crown Court.
