A man accused of a 2011 murder case is in custody after police detained him during the Kainos operation in Košice, eastern Slovakia. The suspect was taken into preventive detention by the Specialized Criminal Court. Police said their actions led to a change in the legal qualification of the act, from murder to an aggravated form of deliberate killing. Police carried out the operation through the anti-organized crime unit of the Police Presidium. The man is accused of committing the offence as a co-perpetrator. Investigators allege the motive was to get hold of cash the victim had with him. After the killing, the accused is said to have helped move the body and erase traces. Police also say the plan involved destroying a vehicle by setting it on fire. The murder took place in November 2011 in western Slovakia, and the investigation into the violent death continues. The accused remains in custody as the Specialized Criminal Court ruled on preventive detention.
