Man jailed after crashing stolen car during police pursuit on A303
Ben Marchant, 21, was jailed for 12 months after speeds over 100mph and a crash at Barton Stacey.
Ben Marchant, 21, was jailed after a high-speed police pursuit following the theft of a car on the A303.
Police were called on 21 April after a Vauxhall Insignia was reported stolen in Ludgershall. Officers later spotted the car travelling eastbound on the A303 but it failed to stop when blue lights were activated.
A pursuit was authorised. Marchant drove at more than 100mph before crashing at the junction for Barton Stacey in April.
Following the collision, Marchant was arrested and later charged with failing to stop, dangerous driving, theft of a vehicle and possession of a class B drug.
Last month, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison. He was disqualified from driving for five years and ordered to pay a £228 surcharge.
Roads Policing Unit PC Tom Webster said the pursuit put Marchant and other road users at risk of injury or worse. He said footage from the incident is “really quite shocking”.
