A Bristol armourer has been jailed for 13 years and eight months after building a 3D printed sub-machine gun and posting it to another firearms offender. Luke Fortune, 23, of Mapstone Rise, Longwell Green, Bristol, admitted offences including converting firearms, making or manufacturing a firearm, and selling or transferring firearms. National Crime Agency officers arrested him in July 2024 over blank firearms purchases, and later caught up with further weapons while he was on bail. Prosecutors say Fortune bought tools and equipment to convert weapons at his family home garage. He was arrested over the purchase of 35 top-venting blank firearms, three antique firearms and more than 1,000 bullets, and over the manufacture of a 3D printed sub-machine gun. The NCA also linked Fortune to Gerard Dagnall, 33, of Norris Green in Liverpool. Digital and financial evidence showed close contact between the pair, with conversations indicating Fortune was brokering deals for Dagnall to sell guns to other criminals. Dagnall, who had been sentenced in November 2024 to eight years and three months after a separate investigation, tried to smuggle eight handguns from Belgium into the UK. Fortune sent Dagnall a 3D printed FGC9 sub-machine gun through the post and sent a video showing him test firing it in a wood. Dagnall replied with a photograph of the package next to his passport. The messages also showed they planned to travel to Thailand together to smuggle firearms back to the UK. When officers raided Fortune’s home, they found numerous blank bullets, cartridges, cases and primers in various stages of conversion. His bank accounts showed he spent several thousand pounds between 2022 and 2024 on blank firearms. Fortune was jailed after admitting two counts of firearms possession, two counts of possessing ammunition, one count of converting firearms, one charge of making or manufacturing a firearm, one count of selling or transferring firearms, and a charge of conspiracy to import firearms. He was arrested again while on bail in January 2026 after Avon and Somerset Police found a Glock type pistol and a revolver hidden in a bush in Longwell Green. The sentence was imposed at Bristol Crown Court on Friday 6 November 2026.
