A man has been sentenced to four and a half years in jail after pleading guilty in connection with an attempt to possess parts for a prohibited firearm. The National Crime Agency (NCA) said officers raided David Boylett’s home in Telford, Shropshire, after an investigation into 3D-printed weapons. At the property, officers found a partially completed 3D-printed firearm that forensics experts later said was close to completion. The NCA said the weapon was about 15 minutes away from functioning fully once excess polymer had been removed. Investigators also found firearms components, tools and two 3D printers. Forensics experts analysed Boylett’s computer and memory card and found documents about converting firearms, making ammunition and using 3D printers. The NCA said one folder contained instructional videos for the same model of firearm seized from his property. A video on Boylett’s mobile phone showed a 3D printer producing a component for a firearm of the type recovered at the scene. Using recovered files, NCA firearms experts printed the remaining parts needed to complete the firearm and carried out a successful test fire. The NCA also reported recovering a powerful air rifle and ammunition, along with a shotgun part that had been stolen from a vehicle in Herefordshire in April 2012. Boylett was arrested in July 2021 and later pleaded guilty in January 2026 to attempting to possess a component part of a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition, and possessing an overpowered air rifle without a licence. On Monday 10 August at Shrewsbury Crown Court, he was sentenced to four and a half years in jail.
