Nuremberg police arrested a 40-year-old man after witnesses spotted him outside a club in the city center with a knife in his hand. Early Sunday morning, 18 October 2026, passers-by reported that the man stood in the Vorderen Sterngasse holding a folding knife, repeatedly opening it and walking around. Police said no threatening actions against people had been reported at the time. Officers found the man at the scene with his back to them, while three uninvolved people were nearby. Police ordered him to drop the knife and brought him to the ground while holding their service firearm. After repeated commands, the 40-year-old threw the knife away. He was then overpowered using immediate coercive measures and restrained. During the arrest, the man suffered injuries to his face and was taken to hospital by an ambulance. The police said any offences will be checked by the Nürnberg-Mitte police inspectorate as the case develops. The investigation is ongoing.
