FBI Most Wanted fraudster Manjit Singh Bedi has been extradited to the United States weeks after Punjab Police arrested him, following allegations he defrauded the US government of at least $600,000 in SNAP benefits. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the transfer on X, saying Bedi is charged with defrauding the US of SNAP funds around 2024 to 2025 and “now will face justice for his alleged crimes”. He added Bedi was captured after his FBI “Most Wanted Fraudsters” listing and that it was the latest in overseas arrests tied to fraud cases. Punjab Police arrested Bedi in connection with a case registered in May 2026. The arrest came hours after the FBI put him on its “Most Wanted” list. According to the article, Bedi was taken from India to the United States on Wednesday. Prosecutors allege Bedi ran a grocery operation in Tacoma, Washington, called Asian Grocery Store. The scheme targeted Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, participants who used electronic benefits transfer, EBT, cards. Instead of selling food, Bedi was accused of swiping customers’ EBT cards and giving them cash, keeping half of the proceeds for himself, for about one year between March 2024 and June 2025. The FBI said Bedi was indicted for wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud in April 2026. He was allowed to appear in court without being arrested, ordered to give up his passport and remain in Washington state. The FBI alleged he then drove across the border to Canada and fled to India. Bedi was charged with violations of conditions of supervision after a federal arrest warrant was issued on 21 May 2026 by the US District Court for the Western District of Washington in Tacoma. In the Punjab case, the article says he was booked under the Punjab Travel Professionals’ Regulation Act, along with sections relating to cheating and criminal breach of trust. The latest status is that Bedi has been taken into US custody and charged over the alleged SNAP fraud scheme, with FBI saying he will now face justice for the accusations.
