Three men were arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle contraband to a notorious Sligo gang boss held at Castlerea Prison. The men were visiting the gangster inside the prison on Friday afternoon when Gardaí moved in. They were detained in an intelligence-led operation outside the facility. Gardaí seized a quantity of suspected contraband at the scene. The prisoner is on remand for drug-related charges and is described as well known to Gardaí, charged over a significant quantity of drugs. The Irish Prison Service said it does not comment on security or operational matters.
