Police arrested a 55-year-old man at Milan Porta Garibaldi station for suspected cigarette smuggling. Officers stopped him on Monday afternoon, shortly before he boarded a direct train to France. A check by the railway police found 405 cigarette packs and 130 cartons, with the tobacco weighing about 44 kilos. The cigarettes were missing the State Monopoly seal and came from countries outside the Schengen area. The man also had 1,000 euros in cash, which investigators believe could be proceeds from illegal activity. After the checks, he was arrested and all seized material was confiscated. The case remains under investigation, with the arrest having been carried out following the station stop and seizure.
