Three young people, including two under 15, were detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) in Carnide, Lisbon, after they were suspected of robbery in a public place using a knife with a 23-centimetre blade. According to a PSP statement, the incident took place at around 11pm on Tuesday when the suspects approached a victim and allegedly, under threat of the knife, took items worth 75 euros before fleeing. After an alert, a criminal investigation team collected information and carried out inquiries to locate the suspects a few minutes later in the same street, where all three were detained. The items taken from the victim were recovered. The PSP said they were seized and then returned to the victim. The statement adds that the knife was seized from the oldest suspect, who was 16 years old and allegedly had the weapon at his waist. During the subsequent inquiries, police said they found the teenager was reported as having escaped from a care institution. After being presented for questioning before a judicial first hearing, the 16-year-old was placed under a court-ordered measure of mandatory residence in the care institution he reportedly escaped from. The PSP also said he will now be monitored using an electronic ankle tag. The two under-15 suspects were presented to the Family and Minors Court. One was taken to an institution following a decision by the competent court, while the second was handed to their mother. The suspects are accused and not proven guilty.
