Police in Moldova, with the SIS intelligence service and prosecutors, carried out raids across multiple regions in a case accusing a group of preparing violent mass unrest. The searches took place on 23 October 2026 in Chișinău and in the Centre and North regions, after investigators said the group allegedly began its activity in October 2026. According to preliminary information presented by police, the suspects allegedly tried to mobilize young people through social media to provoke “disorders in mass.” Investigators said the group’s aims included financial gain and organizing illegal actions, including the destruction or deliberate damage of public and civilian property. Police said the alleged plan was carried out via multiple online platforms, including TikTok and Facebook, plus Telegram channels. One channel mentioned by investigators is “ProtestMD”. Investigators added that the group allegedly created several fake social media profiles and that some accounts were allegedly managed from outside the country. Police said the recruitment targeted in particular young people from vocational and higher education institutions. They alleged the suspects used manipulation methods to reduce awareness of the consequences of such actions. Officers from the Inspectoratului Național de Investigații (INI), together with SIS and prosecutors from PCCOCS, conducted the raids, with support from the Special Police Unit “Fulger.” The latest status is that the suspects are cooperating with law enforcement and the investigation continues to identify everyone involved, police said. The authority also urged people not to be manipulated by messages calling for violence or illegal acts.
