Serbia arrests dual citizen on Interpol red notice over cocaine smuggling
Suspect is accused of helping a group aimed to move 1.89 tons of cocaine to Australia and Belgium.
Serbia has arrested M.T., a 51-year-old dual citizen of Montenegro and Serbia, on an Interpol red notice, police said. He is wanted by Montenegro for alleged drug and organised crime offences.
M.T. was sought to secure his presence in proceedings before the Podgorica High Court. Montenegro accuses him of forming a criminal organization and of unauthorized production, possession and distribution of drugs.
The alleged group was linked to late Goran Vlaovic and formed in 2020. Prosecutors say its goal was to smuggle 1.89 tons of cocaine from Colombia and Ecuador to Australia and Belgium.
Serbian investigators located and arrested M.T. after intensive cooperation and information exchange between NCB Interpol Podgorica and NCB Interpol Belgrade. After proceedings before the Special Department for Organized Crime of the High Court in Belgrade, he was released with a ban on leaving Serbia.
