Police RAID in Montpellier over gym dispute after suspected shotgun retrieval
One man surrendered after negotiations and was arrested as searches began.
A RAID unit intervened in a Montpellier gym after a dispute between two employees escalated and police feared an armed threat.
French police said the incident happened on Friday afternoon at a Basic-Fit gym on Avenue de Palavas in Montpellier. The argument between the two employees reportedly turned into a fight, and one man may have gone to the changing area to retrieve a long gun, potentially a shotgun.
Police partially evacuated the gym while carrying out checks. Because of the suspected weapon and the risk it could be used, officers requested the RAID unit to help handle the situation.
After negotiations, the man accepted to surrender. He was then taken into custody and is being questioned by police.
Officers are conducting searches in both the changing area and the gym, while a security perimeter has been set up.
The man remains under police questioning following his arrest, as investigations and searches continue.
