Police press conference on 1995 Lidl raubmord cold case arrest
Krefeld prosecutors and Mönchengladbach police brief media after a suspect arrest tied to the “MK Lidl” case.
Police in Mönchengladbach and prosecutors in Krefeld are holding a press conference after a suspect was arrested in connection with the 1995 “MK Lidl” cold case.
The case relates to the killing of 24-year-old branch manager Sonja K. on 25 January 1995 at a Lidl store on Hochstraße 33 to 35 in St. Tönis, Kreis Viersen. Prosecutors say the case is being followed under the campaign “Mord verjährt nicht. Der Niederrhein erinnert sich.”
The arrest happened as part of investigations by the Mordkommission Lidl, a cold-case unit that police restarted alongside the Landeskriminalamt Nordrhein-Westfalen and the Staatsanwaltschaft Krefeld. The press conference will be on Tuesday, 13 October, at 10:00.
Media will meet Staatsanwältin Rahel Plass from the Krefeld public prosecution office, along with Boris Vieten, head of Kriminalinspektion 1 at Mönchengladbach police, and Stefanie Kohnen, head of the Cold Case investigations group. The briefing takes place at the Mönchengladbach police headquarters at Krefelder Straße 555, in the canteen event area. Interested journalists must register by Monday, 12 October, 13:00, via email or a police hotline.
Police say the cold-case unit continues to look for new leads to identify suspects and give relatives certainty. The “MK Lidl” matter remains under investigation following the arrest.
