Police in Moscow carried out a large raid in the Kitay-Gorod area, detaining up to around 300 young people, including minors. The arrests happened in the evening of 7 November near the Gorka park, a popular meeting spot for the city’s youth. Witnesses said more than ten police vans arrived. Officers detained young people in the park, near bars and shops, and on surrounding streets. Detainees were taken to police stations in Basmanny and Tagansky districts. Different sources put the number of people detained at more than 100, including reports of over 200. Relatives who gathered near the stations also cited about 300 people. Some of the detained youths were later released. At least 17 teenagers received administrative case reports for drinking alcohol in public, according to information cited by Baza. Several released detainees said police focused on young people with an informal style of dress. Others described being called in groups to police stations where documents for military registration were issued, with some claiming even students with deferments were among those handed notices. Moscow police said the operation was aimed at maintaining public order and preventing administrative offences, pointing in particular to efforts against drinking alcohol in public.
