Police detain 2 suspects after motorbike deal leads to homicide attempt
The attack in Setúbal followed an argument over a broken motorcycle and left a 17-year-old fighting for life.
Two men aged 23 and 25 were detained in Setúbal on suspicion of qualified attempted homicide after an attack on a 17-year-old linked to the sale of a broken motorcycle.
The alleged incident took place on 11 May around 22:30 in a public street. The victim challenged the terms of the deal for the motorbike sold by one of the suspects, sparking a heated dispute.
During the confrontation, one man allegedly struck the teenager on the head with a paving stone. The other is accused of using a knife to injure the teen’s left ear. The injuries caused heavy bleeding and put the 17-year-old’s life in danger.
After the assault, both suspects fled the scene, leaving the youth unresponsive.
The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) later built the case and made arrests outside the act of flagrante delicto. Officers from Setúbal’s Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ carried out the detentions with support from the PSP in Setúbal.
Both men were taken in custody to face their first judicial interrogation, where the court will decide on the appropriate coercive measures. The investigation is led by the Setúbal Public Prosecutor’s Office for Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).
