John Cassar is suspected of murdering his mother in Mqabba and critically injuring his father, and will be arraigned on Saturday afternoon. Cassar was arrested last Thursday after fleeing the scene while armed. Police say he was found at his farm in Ħal Farruġ, in the limits of Siġġiewi. During the period he was on the run, Cassar’s Facebook account posted fresh messages alleging that third parties had been involved. In those posts, he threatened people and alleged that he was scammed €7,000 from his Revolut account, and he wrote that he was locked up and armed. Mary Grace Cassar was found dead in her kitchen with several stab wounds, police said. Her husband, Cassar’s father, was being treated in hospital. John Cassar is the brother of Roderick Cassar, who was jailed for 40 years for killing his estranged wife. Cassar is set to be arraigned at 3pm on Saturday.
