A suspected perpetrator in the murder of Rexhep Ismail has been arrested in Greece. The killing happened on May 7 in the victim’s bar in the village of Gjashtë, Sarandë. Citizen LT, 37, has been placed in handcuffs, with the court imposing the security measure “arrest in prison”. Police say LT is accused of intentional murder, unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition, and threat, committed in collaboration. A second suspect, I. Ç., 40, was also arrested in Greece. He is accused of offenses connected to the earlier violent altercation involving sharp objects and is said to have been using a false identity to stay on Corfu. His extradition to Albania is expected. The arrests followed close cooperation with Greek counterparts under an operation codenamed “The Wanted”, involving Interpol directorates. Investigators suspect that on 07.05.2026, the 37-year-old killed a 66-year-old man, RI, with a firearm, a pistol, inside the bar after a conflict involving hard objects between several citizens. The 40-year-old was among those involved in the confrontation that preceded the murder. Police say intensive work is underway to locate and capture other people wanted in connection with the case. The two detainees are awaiting procedures to be finalized for extradition to Albania.
