Nathan Bom accused in Tk 1.63 crore laundering case over KNF uniforms
CID filed the case against nine people after uniforms were found in Chattogram raids.
Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) chief Nathan Bom is accused in a money laundering case over the alleged financing of 40,000 sets of camouflage uniforms for the banned militant group.
Bangladesh’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said it traced transactions totalling Tk1.63 crore for producing the fabric and stitching the uniforms.
The case was filed on Wednesday with Bayezid Bostami Police Station under Section 4(2) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.
Police began investigating after uniforms were uncovered during a raid in Chattogram on 18 May 2025. A special team from Chattogram Metropolitan Police detained a person allegedly involved in producing KNF uniforms in the Mozaffarnagar residential area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station.
Based on that information, police detained two more people from flats in Halishahar’s Chhotopul area before raiding a warehouse and a garment factory in Bayezid Bostami. Officers recovered 20,300 four-colour camouflage uniform sets, including 11,200 from the warehouse and 9,100 from the factory. Each set comprised a shirt and trousers.
After the seizure, a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and the CID examined the financial activities of those involved in producing the uniforms. The CID traced the money trail through bank accounts, cheques, cash payments, purchase orders, business identities, communications and other financial transactions.
According to the CID, Mongholasin, acting as a KNF representative, first contacted Niaz Haider and then, through him, Golam Azam. The CID alleged they arranged camouflage-printed fabric with Well Composite Knit Ltd, which received Tk90.595 lakh. For stitching the shirts and trousers, the CID said Niaz and Golam Azam, acting on Mongholasin’s instructions, contacted Ringvo Apparels, NN Fashion and Noor Fashion, which received Tk72 lakh in total, bringing the combined figure to Tk1.63 crore.
The CID alleged that Nathan Bom directed Mongholasin and the other accused to jointly arrange and finance the uniforms. It said the transfer, movement and conversion of funds were intended to conceal the source of the money and finance uniforms for a group posing a threat to Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. The CID said it is still examining the source and flow of funds and looking for others linked to the financial network.
Bom and the eight other accused have been charged with money laundering through the case filed with Bayezid Bostami Police Station, and the CID continues its financial investigation.
