Neighbours catch 44-year-old stealing tools from empty garage in Hmelnytskyi region
Police detained the suspect after he allegedly grabbed a chainsaw and tools from a vacant property.
Neighbours helped police catch a man trying to steal from an empty garage in the Hmelnytskyi region.
Police said the incident happened on 6 November in a village of the Horodotska territorial community. A 44-year-old resident of Horodok allegedly entered a property where the owner currently does not live, went into the garage, and put a chainsaw and other tools into his bag.
Neighbours spotted the break-in “in the act” and immediately called police. Officers detained the suspect and seized the stolen property. After procedural steps are completed, the items will be returned to the owner.
Investigators announced a suspicion of attempted theft committed under martial law conditions. A decision on what preventive measure to apply to the detainee is currently under way.
The case is still in the investigation stage as the court decision on the next legal steps has not been issued yet.
