Two youths arrested in Nesslau after attacks on seniors and attempted robbery
Three people at an age home and a couple were injured after bottle throwing and a cash-and-phone attempt.
Two youths have been arrested in Nesslau, in Switzerland, after attacks on residents at a care home and an attempted robbery.
St Gallen cantonal police said the incidents happened on Wednesday evening, 4 November 2026. A 19-year-old and a 16-year-old are suspected of injuring three people at an age home, then later attacking a couple in another incident.
Police were alerted after 6.50 pm when reports came in that two young men had attacked people at an age home and were throwing bottles and cans outside the building. When a 76-year-old resident confronted them, one youth allegedly struck and kicked him until he fell to the ground.
The 76-year-old was seriously injured. An 86-year-old resident and a 67-year-old staff member were also hurt. All three were taken to hospital by the rescue service.
The 19-year-old was held back by people nearby until police arrived, and was then taken into custody. The 16-year-old fled on foot. Minutes later, on Wiesenstrasse, he allegedly demanded cash from a woman and tried to snatch her mobile phone when she refused.
The woman’s husband rushed to help and was also injured. The couple suffered minor injuries and did not need medical care on the spot.
Police found the 16-year-old at the station shortly afterwards. Due to his aggressive behaviour, he was arrested under threat of the destabilisation device. The case is being investigated under the leadership of the St Gallen public prosecutor and the youth prosecutor.
