A man in his forties known to the justice system was found shot dead in his vehicle in the east of Nîmes, according to the prosecution. The body was discovered on Sunday around midday on the road to Courbessac. Several bullets hit the victim. The public prosecutor opened an investigation for murder in an organised gang and is considering the possibility of a settling of accounts. The attacker or attackers fled after the shootings. A vehicle described as potentially linked to the incident was later found burned out in Saint-Gervasy, about ten kilometres from Nîmes. In a statement, Nîmes prosecutor Cécile Gensac said the victim was “known to the justice services”. The man had previously been jailed, including for an offence under the legislation on drugs. At this stage, the precise circumstances of the killing remain to be determined, and no arrests have been announced.
