Police in Oberhausen arrested a 36-year-old man on Tuesday morning after a suspected break-in, during which he carried a blank-firing pistol. Officers were called to Tannenbergstraße at 1:53 a.m. A local resident had seen a person using a flashlight on the ceiling area of an opposite multi-family building that was under renovation and left empty. Police searched the building step by step and found the suspect on the first floor. He was preparing various copper construction materials in a bucket to take away. During a search of his backpack, officers found burglary tools. They also found the blank-firing weapon along with ammunition. The man was taken into police custody. In the past, he had already drawn police attention for similar offences. By Tuesday midday, the local court in Oberhausen issued an arrest warrant on request of the public prosecutor Duisburg. The Criminal Investigation Department 22 is now handling further inquiries.
