Police arrest man in Odessa for threatening officers with a grenade
The device is reportedly training-imitating, and prosecutors charge him with threats of murder.
Odessa police arrested a serviceman who allegedly left his unit without permission and threatened law enforcement with a grenade on a residential street.
Officers were called after neighbours reported the man walking around with a grenade and threatening to use it. When police arrived on Semyon Paliy Street, the suspect climbed onto the balcony and continued his threats from above.
Through negotiations, the man eventually surrendered to the police.
Police sent the grenade for expert examination. It reportedly has the appearance of a training and imitation device.
Based on the evidence available, the suspect was served a suspicion of a criminal offence under Part 1 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, for threatening to kill a law enforcement officer in connection with the officer’s official duties. The maximum penalty listed for the charge is three years in prison.
The case is at the stage of determining a preventive measure. The man remains in custody as the legal process continues.
