Police in central Athens arrested a 42-year-old man after he allegedly pointed a pistol replica at officers near Omonia Square and tried to escape. The incident happened on Monday, 12 October 2026, in the Omonia area. Officers moved in after seeing the suspect, who reportedly pulled out an object resembling a firearm and aimed it at the police. The man then attempted to run away to avoid being checked. Despite the resistance, officers managed to subdue him and put him in handcuffs. He was taken to the Omonia Police Station. Published information says the weapon was later confirmed to be a replica, not a working military firearm. At the time of the threat, officers may not have known whether the object could fire. Details on the charges and any further legal steps were not provided, but the case is being investigated separately.
