Polish police warn of online sale scam targeting bank accounts
A fake buyer sends a payment link after contact, potentially locking sellers out of banking access.
Polish police are warning online sellers about a fraud scheme where a buyer contacts them quickly and sends a link for payment, but the goal is to steal access to their bank accounts.
In the scam, someone lists an item for sale, then a “customer” follows up almost immediately. The buyer then sends a link connected to receiving money, making the exchange look like a normal transaction.
The risk is that the link can be used to take control of a seller’s bank access. Police say sellers should learn how to spot a fake buyer and how to sell safely online.
The warning is part of the “Bankowcy dla CyberEdukacji” educational campaign, and it is presented in a third film featuring Karol Wójcicki, a science populariser and journalist.
