Fake carabiniere fraud attempt in Orbassano ends with arrest
A 34-year-old torino man was jailed after trying to extort gold from two elderly people.
A fake carabiniere tried to scam two elderly people in Orbassano, but was stopped in the street by the real Carabinieri and ended up in custody.
The incident took place on 4 November afternoon. A 34-year-old man from Turin, described as having no fixed address, was blocked in flagrante while allegedly trying to get some gold coins from a couple of elderly residents.
Police said the scam followed the same pattern: the victims received a phone call from a person posing as a carabiniere. The caller told them to hand over their gold jewellery to a “military” who would arrive at their home for a supposed judicial comparison.
The couple suspected the call was fraudulent and contacted the Carabinieri. Patrols were then deployed in Orbassano and Piossasco to wait for the would-be scammer.
After the man was intercepted, he was arrested for attempted aggravated fraud in complicity with others and taken to jail in Turin, as ordered by the judicial authority.
