Thames Valley Police seized 35 illegal e-bikes and e-scooters in Oxford during a week-long crackdown, targeting vehicles modified to run above legal speeds. Officers from the roads policing unit and the Oxford Cowley neighbourhood team carried out the operation over the past week. The force said many of the confiscated bikes had been modified to travel “significantly above legal limits”. Police also stressed that, under current legislation, privately owned e-scooters remain illegal to use on public roads, cycle lanes and pavements. During the campaign, stop and searches linked to the illegal vehicles led to three men being placed under investigation after cannabis was found by officers. A separate investigation is also ongoing after another man was found with a bladed article, police added. The latest position is that investigations are ongoing, with three men under investigation and a fourth matter still being investigated.
