Paris prosecutor opens probe after fake bomb alerts on planes
Investigators look for the authors of the emails and any link to foreign powers.
Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation after fake bomb alerts targeted aircraft flying over France, with investigators examining a possible link to foreign powers.
The probe was launched by the Paris public prosecutor on Saturday, 7 November, to identify the authors of emails that allegedly claimed a dangerous aircraft destruction.
Authorities said investigations are aimed at finding who sent the messages intended to make people believe planes posed imminent risks. Prosecutors also want to determine whether the authors have any connection to foreign powers.
One affected flight was an Aer Lingus aircraft that was diverted after a bomb alert, landing at the Air Force base in Évreux on 5 November 2026, according to the AFP report.
Investigators are still working to identify the suspects behind the false alerts, and the Paris inquiry remains ongoing.
