Five suspects are wanted after a ฿37 million armed robbery in Pattaya targeted a Turkish businessman, who was forced into an online cryptocurrency transfer during the early hours raid. Police say the gang watched the victim for about a month, then struck at 3.30 am on October 6 at his luxury home in Cascade by Patta, Moo 8, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. Three masked gunmen assaulted and handcuffed the 34-year-old businessman and his Burmese cleaner before forcing a cryptocurrency transfer worth ฿27.5 million, using Tether units. Investigators said the operation was prepared well in advance. The suspects reportedly rented a luxury property inside the same residential development, one house away, starting in early September. The group arranged transport and monitored the businessman’s movements for around a month before the raid. Inside the residence, the attackers demanded valuables and also took Rolex watches, Thai cash totalling ฿210,000, and four mobile telephones. Police said the robbers escaped after securing the cryptocurrency and other items. The investigation later uncovered the gang’s rapid exit. By about 9.30 am on October 6, all five Chinese nationals had left Thailand through Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport, before investigators identified them or issued arrest warrants. Immigration and travel records showed three different routes, with one suspect travelling to China, two to Malaysia, and two to Hong Kong. Arrest warrants were obtained three days later. On October 10, police confirmed the manhunt had gone international, with Chinese police and Interpol being enlisted while the stolen loot remains missing.
