Police in Plzeň have detained a man suspected of stabbing a 39-year-old woman near Velký Bolevecký rybník. The attack happened on Saturday around 1 p.m., when the woman went running by the pond. A man without any apparent reason attacked her and stabbed her in the back with a knife. Officers arrived first and provided first aid before handing her over to medical professionals. She was taken to hospital with injuries. After the attack, the suspect left on a bicycle. Police launched a large search and criminal investigators also obtained video footage capturing his likeness. Initially, police were looking at the incident as attempted grievous bodily harm and public disorder. After further assessment, regional investigators reclassified the case as an attempted murder, a particularly serious crime. Investigators are now carrying out additional procedural steps with the detained suspect. More information will be released only once it is possible with respect to the ongoing criminal proceedings.
