Poland’s internal security authorities have arrested a suspected man over alleged threats and possible assassination attempts aimed at Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamysz. The arrest was made in connection with an investigation into possible attack attempts against both top officials, Tusk said on X, praising police for a “quick and decisive” response. Police had received information about the possible threat. Jauns.lv reports that the State Defence Service had passed on the concern, and the defence ministry’s press secretary, Jacek Dobżyński, said that authorities believed there was a significant chance the threats could be carried out. On Sunday at 11:00, a meeting was held at Poland’s Internal Security Agency Counterterrorism Centre. Representatives from police, the relevant services and the state officials’ security service attended to assess the threats and decide what protective measures were needed. Threats against Tusk were also reported before. In September, police detained two men after online posts threatening the prime minister. One posted a video with threats, while the other issued death threats. It remains unclear whether that earlier case is linked to Sunday’s arrest. The suspect is currently detained as the investigation continues into possible threats and assassination attempts targeting Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz.
