Polish police detained a 55-year-old Russian man in Świdnica suspected of spying for a foreign intelligence service, seizing 250,000 photos of trains and railway infrastructure. Officers stopped him as he photographed trains and transport facilities in the city. The man allegedly arrived in Poland on business. A search found evidence across hundreds of thousands of files on his electronic devices and information carriers. Prosecutors and police said the material included photos from multiple locations and covered railway infrastructure and other assets described as critically important. Interior ministry spokeswoman Karolina Gajecka said investigators confiscated 250,000 railway photos, with some of the material possibly stored on other information carriers. Police are now having the seized materials analyzed to determine who ordered the photographing, which countries the pictures were taken in, and whether the data was passed to a foreign state. During questioning, the man allegedly failed to give consistent explanations for why he was in Poland and what he was doing there. The case has been taken to court, which ordered the suspect held in custody for three months. He was charged with carrying out activities for a foreign intelligence service against Poland. The investigation continues as prosecutors review the evidence seized from his devices.
