Polish police detained a man suspected of preparing an attack against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the defence minister, Vladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, according to AFP. The suspect, about 60 years old, was arrested in the south-western region of Lower Silesia. Searches at his home were continuing, a ministry spokesperson said. Tusk announced the detention on X, praising “quick and decisive actions” by police. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said investigators reached the man after analysing content published online. Police are checking his contacts and online activity. The Ministry of the Interior said Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz may have been targets of attempted assassination. Authorities said the police were warned by the State Protection Service after it received information about a potential threat against the prime minister and the defence minister. “We approach this matter with exceptional seriousness,” the co-ordinator for special services, Jacek Dobrzynski, said. Dobrzynski added that threats against Polish officials are becoming more frequent, and he suggested there is a “high likelihood” they could be carried out. Kierwiński said that at this stage it is likely too early to say whether a foreign factor is involved, saying it instead appears to involve a person from very radical groups building contacts via the internet. The investigation remains ongoing, with police searches continuing and the man in custody as authorities verify the information.
