Polish police in Warsaw detained a 30-year-old man suspected of a knife attack on two Ukrainians in a city bus, leaving both victims with multiple cut injuries. The incident happened in early October. After the attack, the suspect fled the scene. The injured were hospitalized. Police launched a search and found the man hiding in a wooded area in the Warsaw district of Bielany, where he was detained. Investigators said the attack had motives linked to national hatred. Prosecutors brought three charges. Two counts relate to the alleged assault on Ukrainians because of their national identity. The third charge concerns threats made by the same man at a venue in Warsaw in August 2023. The investigation also established that from April 2021 to February 2023, the suspect served a sentence for a similar offense. A court previously ordered him to be held in custody for three months for that case. If convicted in the current case, he faces 3 to 20 years in prison. The Warsaw police announced the detention and charges on Friday, 30 October, and the case remains pending.
