Poland police arrest 55-year-old Russian for photographing rail infrastructure
He was temporarily jailed for three months after police found hundreds of thousands of files.
Polish police in Świdnica have arrested a 55-year-old Russian citizen suspected of working for a foreign intelligence service, after he was caught photographing railway traffic and infrastructure.
Authorities say the man was detained while taking pictures in Świdnica. Police later analysed data found on storage media seized from him and uncovered hundreds of thousands of files covering similar locations and key communication sites, not only in Poland.
Investigators said the images could have been used against state security. The case involved close cooperation between the Świdnica prosecutor’s office and the Wrocław CBZC.
The suspect was charged under Article 130, paragraph 1, of the Polish Criminal Code. A court ordered him to be temporarily arrested for the next three months.
