A senior woman in Poland lost 50,000 zł after falling for a scammer posing as a doctor, Polish police warn. The fraudster convinced the woman that her son and daughter-in-law were seriously ill and needed money urgently to buy medicine. To make the story believable, cries could be heard in the background, with someone calling, "Mom, save us!", the police said. Police say the scam depended on creating fear for the lives of the victim’s relatives. If people suspect they are dealing with a fraudster, they should contact the police, and if money has already been handed over, call 112 immediately, the warning adds. Polish police gave the case as a cautionary example and did not report any arrests or charges.
