Police in Plzeň have detained a man suspected of stabbing a 39-year-old runner near Velký Bolevecký rybník. The attack happened on Saturday around 13:00, when the cyclist allegedly attacked the woman from behind without any apparent reason and stabbed her with a knife in her back. Officers arrived first at the scene, provided the runner with first aid, and then handed her over to medical teams. She was taken to hospital with injuries. Police launched a large search for the suspect, who left the area on a bicycle. Investigators initially checked the case as attempted serious bodily harm and disorderly conduct. After obtaining a camera recording, police released photographs of the man to help locate him. On Sunday evening after 19:00, police announced that a tactical unit had caught the suspect. Criminal investigators identified him during the day using operational work and moved to reclassify the case as attempted murder. The next steps will be procedural actions carried out by regional criminal investigators. The man remains detained as the investigation continues under the updated charge.
