A man suspected of stabbing a 39-year-old woman near Velký Bolevecký rybník in Plzeň has been detained, police said. Police were alerted after the attack on Saturday, when the victim, who had been jogging around the pond, was allegedly attacked by an unknown man. The suspect stabbed her once in the back with a knife, before fleeing. Police then launched a manhunt. Over the following days they worked the case with maximum effort, and on Sunday evening the Police of the Czech Republic said a detention was made by a response unit. Investigators had pinpointed the suspect with the help of investigative work that included obtaining camera footage. Police say the case has now been handled by regional criminal investigators, who requalified it as attempted murder. The woman was taken to hospital after first aid was provided at the scene by responding officers and she was handed over to paramedics. Police said they would provide more details only as the criminal proceedings allow. The man remains in custody as procedural steps continue with regional investigators on the attempted murder charge.
