Police seize 10.8 tonnes of hashish as 86 arrested in Tangier
The suspected head of the network is in custody in Morocco pending extradition to Spain.
Spanish National Police raided a suspected hashish network operating between Morocco and Spain, seizing 10.8 tonnes of hashish and arresting 86 people in total.
The operation culminated in Tangier, where police detained the alleged ringleader, Juan Carlos T. B., known as Moreno, on 8 October after eight months on the run.
Investigators said the drug entered from Morocco’s northern coasts and was moved to Spain, with Madrid acting as a key storage hub before distribution across the country and further into Europe. Police dismantled seven storage points in Madrid, Guadalajara and Valencia.
The haul also included 20 kilos of cannabis “cogollos” alongside the hashish. Officers made 65 arrests in Madrid, with 10 in Guadalajara and five in Valencia, plus one each in Málaga, Burgos, Almería and Girona.
The crackdown was led by the Udyco, the National Police unit specialising in drugs and organised crime, and was carried out in phases from the start of 2025. The case was linked to the alleged use of encrypted messaging platforms, and international cooperation helped locate the fugitive in Tangier.
Of the 86 arrests, 18 people have been sent to prison so far. The case is being handled by the Audiencia Nacional’s Sección de Instrucción, Plaza 1, and extradition proceedings for the suspected head are the next step as the investigation remains open.
