A 46-year-old man wanted in Poland for homicide and serious injuries has been arrested in Portugal, with a court appearance now planned in Évora. The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) said the man was detained in Vila Real de Santo António, in the Algarve, where officers moved to identify him after a woman reported an unknown suspect in the area of Faro. Police launched inquiries following the report. After the man’s identity was confirmed, the PJ said they identified a Polish detention request linked to his extradition. The operation also involved the Polícia Marítima in Vila Real de Santo António. Because the man has no home in Portugal, he will be presented to the Tribunal da Relação de Évora to apply measures of coaction and to decide on his eventual extradition to the requesting state. The PJ said the arrest followed the attempt to assault the woman that triggered the initial police response.
