Chernivtsi police detained a local man suspected of drug dealing after officers found more than 18 grams of amphetamine. The 41-year-old was arrested as part of an investigation into alleged storage of drugs in especially large amounts for further sale. The police said the case was uncovered on November 1 in Chernivtsi. During a surface check, officers found 51 zip packets containing a powder-like substance and two wraps with a plant-based substance. The material was sent for expert examination. Experts concluded the seized powder contained an especially dangerous psychotropic substance, amphetamine, with a weight of over 18 grams. Police said that amount falls under especially large quantities. Officers reported suspicion under part 2 of Article 307 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which covers illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, transportation, shipment, or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues. The detainee was informed of the suspicion, and at police request a court selected the pre-trial measure of detention. The investigation is ongoing, with the charge carrying a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison and confiscation of property.
